SaeboFlex: The Dynamic GOLD Standard for High-Tone Rehabilitation

Use this dynamic hand splint for overcoming moderate-to-severe spasticity to help you grab objects again after stroke or traumatic brain injury. The SaeboFlex allows individuals suffering from neurological impairments, such as stroke, the ability to incorporate their hand functionally in therapy and at home. These unique orthoses position the wrist and fingers into extension in preparation for object manipulation. The user is able to grasp objects by voluntarily flexing his or her fingers. Once the fingers relax (stop gripping), the extension spring system assists in re-opening the hand to release the object. The SaeboFlex is a custom-fit product that must be properly sized and fit by a qualified professional who has enrolled in our on-line training class.

Description

Overview: Spasticity Unmasked

The SaeboFlex is a high-performance, outrigger-style hand orthosis designed for individuals with moderate-to-severe spasticity. It is the gold standard for those who were previously told they had “no hope” for hand recovery because their hand remains in a tightly clenched or closed position. By providing a mechanical advantage to the fingers and wrist, the SaeboFlex allows you to immediately begin functional “grasp and release” training, turning a useless “claw-fist” into a functional tool for rehabilitation.
How it Works: Spring-Loaded Assistance

Unlike traditional static braces, the SaeboFlex is a dynamic system that uses advanced mechanical engineering to facilitate movement.

  • Mechanism: The device features a series of high-tension extension springs. When you voluntarily attempt to squeeze or grasp an object, you work against the springs. As soon as you relax your grip, the springs do the work for you—pulling your fingers back into an open, extended position.
  • Biomechanical Alignment: It secures the wrist in a functional, neutral position and aligns the fingers, preventing the common “overlapping” or curling seen with high muscle tone.
  • Custom Calibration: A qualified professional calibrates the spring tension to match your current level of spasticity, ensuring the device is challenging yet supportive.

How it Helps: Breaking the Plateau

  • Massed Practice: Enables the high-repetition, task-oriented training required to “re-program” the brain (neuroplasticity).
  • Prevents Contractures: By keeping the hand in a functional position and moving it through its range of motion, it prevents permanent shortening of the muscles and tendons.
  • Reduces Edema and Pain: Encouraging movement helps improve circulation and reduce the swelling often found in a neglected, immobile limb.
  • Immediate Function: Many users are able to pick up and release objects on the very first day of fitting, providing a massive motivational breakthrough.
