The Michael Tippett School and College has a roll of 70 students aged between 11 and 19. Their students have a range of complex needs, such as severe learning difficulties (SLD) or profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD).

The Solutions:

The Astor OT200 ceiling hoist system was installed into five different spaces in an X-Y system. The system has two parallel tracks that are fixed either side of the room. One single track runs between, bridging the gap moving up and down the parallel rails. The hoist when attached, traverses left and right. This configuration allows users to traverse the whole room and works well in a dynamic changeable environment.

The spaces varied from an Activity Hall / Classroom, Sensory room, Games room, Shower / Wet room and a Respite Bedroom. As none of the spaces had any structural support in the ceiling, the hoisting system needed to be supported entirely by the walls by use of wall bracket (solid walls) or wall post (partition walls).
